Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about finding and rating the best Guinness pubs across the UK and Ireland.
What is Foam Finders?
Foam Finders is a community-driven platform for discovering and rating Guinness pubs across the UK and Ireland. Our community of Guinness enthusiasts rates pubs on a scale of 1 to 10, helping you find where the best pints are being poured.
How do I rate a Guinness pub?
Create a free account, find the pub you visited (or add it if it's not listed), and submit your rating out of 10. Your rating should reflect the overall quality of the Guinness pour, including the head, temperature, taste, and presentation.
Is Foam Finders free to use?
Yes, Foam Finders is completely free. You can browse pubs, read ratings, and explore guides without an account. Creating an account (also free) lets you submit your own ratings and track your pub visits.
How are pub ratings calculated?
Each pub's rating is the average of all community ratings on a scale of 0 to 10. We display the average rating alongside the total number of ratings so you can judge the reliability. Pubs with more ratings give a more accurate picture.
What makes a good pint of Guinness?
A quality Guinness should have a creamy, domed head about 15-20mm thick. The body should be a deep ruby-black colour with no visible bubbles. The temperature should be between 5-8°C. The taste should be smooth with balanced bitterness and a subtle roasted flavour. Check our guide on how to tell a good Guinness for more detail.
What is the two-part pour?
The two-part pour is the traditional method of serving draught Guinness. The glass is filled at a 45-degree angle to about three-quarters full, then left to settle for approximately 119.5 seconds. The glass is then topped up with a slow, straight pour to create the signature domed head. This method creates the distinctive creamy texture Guinness is known for.
How do I add a new pub?
Sign in to your account and click "Add a Pub" from the navigation or dashboard. Search for the pub using our location finder, confirm the details, and submit. Once added, you and other users can start rating the Guinness there.
What cities and countries are covered?
Foam Finders covers pubs across England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland. We have listings in over 20 major cities including London, Manchester, Dublin, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Birmingham, Liverpool, Leeds, Bristol, and many more. New pubs are added by the community every day.
Can I find dog-friendly or child-friendly pubs?
Yes! We tag pubs with attributes including dog-friendly, child-friendly, shows live sports, beer garden, outdoor seating, live music, and quiz nights. You can browse dedicated pages for dog-friendly pubs and child-friendly pubs, filtered by city or country.
Why is Guinness often said to taste better in Ireland?
Several factors contribute: Irish pubs typically have higher Guinness turnover meaning fresher kegs, shorter supply chains from the St. James's Gate brewery in Dublin, well-maintained draft systems, and experienced bar staff who follow the proper two-part pour. That said, many pubs across the UK pour an excellent Guinness too - which is exactly what our ratings help you find.
Where can I find Guinness pubs near me?
Use our interactive pub map or dashboard to find rated Guinness pubs near your location. You can also browse by city or country to find pubs in specific areas. Our pubs near me feature uses your location to show the closest top-rated pubs.
Can I find pubs showing live sports?
Yes, we track which pubs show live sports and what sports they typically cover. You can browse pubs by sport including football, rugby, cricket, boxing, golf, darts, tennis, and horse racing. Filter by location to find sports pubs near you.
